Wells MP James Heappey has welcomed the decision by the County Council to assist in saving the 126 bus - which will now continue to run from Axbridge to Wells.
Mr Heappey presented his signed petition to County Hall, calling on the Council to step in, following meetings with First Bus - who were unable to ensure the route's viability.
Thousands of people signed, and Mr Heappey was also able to confirm the extension of the Bus Recovery Fund from the Government to assist in the funding.
Following the news, the MP for Wells and across the Cheddar Valley said: "“This is a great victory for residents along the Cheddar Valley. I’m hugely grateful to everyone who signed my petition and utterly delighted that the route has been saved.”
