Wells MP James Heappey met with Devon and Somerset's Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell, to discuss the fire services in Somerset - and some of the challenges they are facing, as well as the innovative ways it is becoming more efficient.
Mr Howell and Mr Heappey discussed the structure of stations across the constituency, as well as the unique challenges of the rural nature of Somerset.
Local firefighters also showcased their new rapid intervention vehicles are working extremely well around the county. These smaller, more efficient vehicles can navigate country roads and still carry 5 firefighters, with the kit needed.
Mr Heappey said: "It was great to see how the fire service is adapting to the particularly challenging nature of Somerset, and to hear the positive feedback from firefighters about these vehicles and their durability and practicality.
"We also discussed the changes to staffing rotas - including that of retained firefighters, which is looking to allow more flexibility for workers and ensure shifts are covered.
