Wells MP James Heappey was delighted to meet with the new Chief Constable Sarah Crew this week to discuss policing issues across Somerset.
Mr Heappey also raised the implementation of the new Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill introduced by the Government this year. Many constituents have been calling for illegal trespass law, which means illegal encampments are now dealt with as criminal offences, rather than civil.
Areas in Glastonbury and Burnham-on-Sea have been particularly affected by illegal encampments, and this legislation is designed to move on illegal trespassers quickly.
Mr Heappey said: "It was good to meet the Chief Constable to discuss how the new law is being implemented, as well as other policing issues across the patch.
"I am pleased to be able to understand the challenges officers have as well as expectations going forward."
