Wells MP James Heappey visited Bishops Green, in Wookey Hole Road, Wells, following concerns from constituents about electrical components, containing a small amount of radium, which were found on the site.
Mr Heappey met with a number of staff from David Wilson Homes, including Martin Payne, Technical Director.
They discussed a number of issues that have been causing concerns to prospective and current buyers, as well as local residents. Mr Heappey was then given a tour of the site.
Mr Heappey commented: “From my brief visit, it was apparent that David Wilson Homes are doing everything that they possibly can to reassure current and prospective residents that there is no contamination.
“I personally, was reassured by what I saw and heard. I thought that they were being very reasonable with their willingness to allow those not wanting to proceed with a purchase to pull out without penalty. And I’m working with them to support some other constituents affected by the pause in the sale process.”
Martin Payne, Technical Director of David Wilson Homes, said: “We welcomed the visit by Mr Heappey and the opportunity to demonstrate the measures we are taking to give our residents peace of mind. We had an open and honest exchange of views and I felt we had a very fair hearing.
“Moving forward we agreed to keep Mr Heappey informed of our progress. We are delighted to report that sales are continuing.”
