Cheddar MP James Heappey has offered his support to the Friends of Cheddar Library as they look to work with Somerset County Council to ensure the village’s library remains open.
Back in January, the Council announced its library consultation report, which looks at alternative options to deliver the services provided by the 34 libraries in the county.
It has been proposed the library in Cheddar could provide services through either a partnership with the local community, which would be supported by Council funding, or through an additional mobile library stop.
The Friends of Cheddar Library have since been working hard to put their case forward and Mr Heappey met with members of the group to discuss their plans.
Mr Heappey said: “Libraries play such an important role in our community and in Cheddar's case, there is no other library for miles. I have offered my support as they try to find a way of working with the County Council to keep the library open.”
There will be a public meeting held in the village hall on February 20 at 7.30pm and the consultation runs until April 22.
