Wells MP James Heappey is hoping Somerset will be celebrating again next year, with nominations now open for the Countryside Alliance Awards, also known as the Rural Oscars.
The awards celebrate those who have gone the extra mile for the food and farming industry, which both flourish in this part of the country.
At last year’s Rural Oscars, Burnham-On-Sea’s bi-annual food festival Eat: Burnham - which returns to the town on Saturday - received a highly commended award.
Organisers Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds were invited to the finals at The House of Lords to receive their award, and were joined by Mr Heappey.
He said: “We have so many brilliant food and drink producers in the Wells constituency, as well as events which offer the perfect showcase for those products.
“It was great to see Eat: Burnham recognised last year, I hope we will be celebrating more success across Somerset next year.
“I urge you all to send your nominations from across the constituency for the 2018 awards.”
The awards fall in the following categories:
Local Food/Drink Award
Village shop/ Post Office Award
Rural Enterprise Award
Butcher Award
Rural Pub Award
Nominations can be made by clicking here, and the deadline is November 17.
