Burnham-on-Sea MP James Heappey paid Churchfields School in Highbridge a visit and took tough questions from the student council, as well as meeting the headteacher and other staff.
Under new leadership, the school has received a 'good' rating from Ofsted, while previously it had been rated as 'requires improvement.
Headteacher Ross Minton showed Mr Heappey round the school, before being grilled by students about a range of issues including what it is like to be an MP, to ways to help migrants crossing the channel.
Mr Heappey said after Friday’s visit: “It is a wonderful school. 4-5 years ago it was struggling and was requiring improvement but the latest inspection from Ofsted has found it’s now rated a ‘good’ school.”
“You can see that they’re not stopping there, though. They’re pushing forward with loads of ambition for the school, the kids and the community, which is great to see.”
