Wells MP James Heappey visited local art project Wells in Mosaic on Friday, and pledged his support to their fundraising hopes.
Ruth Ames White has been working on the six-metre mosaic of Wells for a number of years, and is hopeful it will take pride of place in the city.
Mr Heappey said: “I think I was the same as so many people who have seen the progress of this amazing project in being so impressed at the intricacy and brilliance of the whole thing.
“I hope that the eventual place of the mosaic is somewhere extremely prominent so that those who live here and visit here can enjoy this piece, which showcases all the wonderful parts of Wells.
“I will do all I can to support Ruth through exploring funding options, and in any other way I can. I very much look forward to following the progress of this great project and thank Ruth and Ian for having me to visit the gallery.”
Mr Heappey also made clear they can count on his support, and that he will look in to any way that more money can be raised.
Ms Ames White added: "“The Mosaic will have national or even international significance, as there is nothing quite like it anywhere, and we appreciate Mr Heappey’s enthusiastic support.”
