This week has been an incredibly important one for businesses across the country and – of course – in the Wells constituency.
As we stepped into step three of the unlocking roadmap, it has meant that hospitality has reopened indoors and there have been a host of sports events which have welcomed spectators back, too.
Following some questionable weather in May, I know what a relief it has been for the leisure and hospitality sector to get back to running their businesses in a much more familiar fashion and it has been fantastic to see such wonderful support from customers.
It is also a great opportunity for so many of our tourism businesses. Overnight stays are now permitted and that in turn will have a huge impact on all the surrounding hot spots which visitors like to take day trips to.
I have really enjoyed getting back out into the community across Somerset over the past few weeks and the atmosphere in schools, businesses and attractions is infectious as everyone finally feels that little bit more positive.
While there are still crucial moments to come, there is every reason to believe that we are well on the way to normality and it feels like we are all pulling together to support those who have been forced to close in this trying time – or to adapt the way they work.
It is just another example of this county being the very best place to live and so it is extremely exciting to be able to welcome tourists back to this fantastic part of the world.
