With the summer very much upon us now, I hope that the rate of the vaccine rollout and the success so far of easing restrictions has been reassuring for businesses and for those wanting to get away.
More than 85million doses have now been administered in the UK, with more than 72 per cent of adults having received both jabs.
This is hugely significant - especially alongside the data regarding cases and hospitalisations, which is now falling. The vaccine works remarkably, and I know much has been said in the media about encouraging young people to get their dose. However, it looks like uptake is good and so we should also praise those who have sacrificed a lot over the past 18 months and are now doing their bit by booking their vaccine.
There will be several other countries requiring vaccination proof (as so many do with other vaccinations), and so not only will it help everyone here in this country, but it will also help open international travel, even more than it is now.
I am so proud of everyone across Somerset who has contributed to the vaccine rollout – and of course, to everyone who has got their jab.
