Once again, Covid-19 is dominating the headlines with the emergence of the Omicron variant.
I know the scramble for tests and booster vaccinations is a bit of worry for some people to see on news outlets, but I want to assure you that the system is working, but there may be a need for some patience.
Here in the Wells constituency, we are already in a very good place in terms of the amount of booster jabs which have been administered.
Everyone over the age of 18 (by the time this column is published) is now eligible to book their booster. The target is ambitious – to get everyone booked in before the new year – but working in the MOD, I know the Army are ready to assist the campaign and are stepping up as they have done so again and again over the past 18 months.
I was pleased to see that the gap between jabs was altered to three months, with all the evidence pointing to its safety and efficacy after that time frame. This is crucial ahead of a trying few weeks when we learn more about the omicron variant and how the disease impacts those who get it.
I know this is tough, with how things were this time last year, but this Christmas the Government is putting all their resources into ensuring it is one that we can enjoy with our loved ones safely.
