A huge number of constituents have got in touch with me over the past couple of weeks regarding the situation in Ukraine, showcasing the strength of feeling at this tragic time.
It is heart-warming to see the support for the Ukranian people from their friends here in the United Kingdom, and I am working hard to respond to you all individually. I am also doing all I can as Minister for the Armed Forces to assist those in Ukranian fighting for not only their lives – but for freedom.
As I write this, we are awaiting a speech in the House of Commons from Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This showcases what extraordinary times we are living in, as this will be the first time that a speech from a foreign leader will have been broadcast directly into the House of Commons chamber.
He has shown enormous courage but we know he - and his people - need far more than that.
The Prime Minister has been meeting with world leaders all week, while the Secretary of State for Defence has been robust on Putin’s actions and the consequences of them.
The West is united against these horrifying scenes we are seeing every day on our television screens, and I am acutely aware there is far more to be done. But, be rest assured the UK Government is working tirelessly to ensure Putin fails – there is no other option.
