It is easy to see why everyone is so frustrated by the sheer length of time it is taking to make any progress on the largest democratic vote in our history.
Sitting on Saturday was absolutely the right thing to do. However, it was frustrating we were unable to have the meaningful vote which would have propelled us even closer to finally putting this decision to bed and focus on delivering policies which will make our country – and this brilliant county – a better place.
It was extremely pleasing to see the new deal’s second reading passed by Parliament on Tuesday but as has been a theme of the past few months, that was never going to be the whole story. Due to the Programme Motion being rejected, the Withdrawal Agreement Bill has had to be halted. This is not what we wanted but without a programme motion agreed, it has been once again taken out of the Government’s hands.
At the time of writing, we are still in limbo while the EU decides on the extension request. But, it looks like we could be heading towards a General Election. As I have said before, I think this is the only way to solve this remarkable deadlock we find ourselves in – where the Government is unable to govern.
I have always put my country first, when I served in the army and as your Member of Parliament and I believe the British public should have the right to select a Parliament which can deliver. Whatever happens, we then need to move on and start implementing policies and in turn halt any more arguments about Brexit.
