This week is Love Our College week and it is the perfect opportunity for me to mention last week’s visit to Strode College in Street.
I attended the opening of the brand new Digital Media and Technology centre alongside my colleague Gillian Keegan, who is the Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills. Strode College has achieved fantastic things and is Ofsted Outstanding. It is also one of the first providers of the new T Levels qualifications and this has resulted in them having received £1million of funding from the Government’s capital fund to create this new block.
This investment into new facilities is so crucial for the students to excel in their T Levels, which provide the equivalent to 3 A levels and combine work in the classroom with work in an industry.
The new block is extremely impressive, and I am so proud of all the hard work which has been put in to delivering such an excellent opportunity for young people in the constituency.
In these testing times qualifications like this are even more important and investment in training is a key priority for the Government. We are also lucky to have Weston College and Bridgwater and Taunton College close by and I know their excellent teaching also serves many constituents.
It is important we take this opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work of our colleges and they have my full support in what they are doing.
