Burnham-on-Sea MP James Heappey has congratulated the town’s postmen and women for all their hard work ahead of Christmas, after a visit to their delivery office last week.
Mr Heappey met with staff in Burnham and found out all about how the military operation works at the busiest time of the year for Royal Mail.
Around 280,000 letters and parcels are delivered the week before Christmas in Burnham, Highbridge and the surrounding villages and Mr Heappey wanted to show his appreciation for all the hard work the staff put in.
He said: “The Royal Mail very kindly invite MPs to drop in on the local sorting office each year at Christmas.
“So, I went to Burnham’s sorting office on Friday and met with the postmen and women who are getting us all of our presents and cards, ahead of the big day next week.
“There are some extraordinary sights – it is piled high with parcels and letters. Around 280,000 letters and parcels go through the sorting office this week alone. That is an unbelievable workload for the men and women going out in all weathers.
“I am sure everyone will join me in thanking them for all their hard work.”
