New figures published last week show the amount of Government support for individuals and businesses across the constituency, revealing more than £90million of support locally.
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the Government has provided a huge and unprecedented package of funding to protect lives and livelihoods through this incredibly challenging period.
In total, more than £160billion has been provided as part of the government’s economic response to coronavirus – with more than £90 million of that provided to Wells.
In the Wells constituency, this is broken down into 15,700 jobs protected through the furlough scheme, £15.2million paid to support self-employed people, £48,685,of503 of bounce back loans for small companies and £30,054.500 of business grants paid.
James Heappey MP said: “The numbers across the country and here in Wells are extraordinary in terms of the amount of money to support our brilliant businesses but also with regards to the job retention scheme and the amount of jobs saved as a result of furlough.
“While the Chancellor was clear, not every job can be saved, this unprecedented amount of support has no doubt helped our local economy and helped so many get back on their feet after the financial uncertainty of coronavirus.”
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said: “I recently set out the government’s next steps towards economic recovery and securing the UK’s long-term prosperity in our Plan for Jobs.
“As we embark on this next phase, the latest figures demonstrate that we are continuing to support jobs, incomes and businesses across every part of the UK.”
