Mr Heappey argued the government must give farmers in the South West clarity over what Brexit means for the subsidy scheme and the availability of seasonal migrant labour.
Mr Heappey said: “I welcome the Chancellor’s announcement that the current agricultural funding under pillar one of the CAP will be maintained until 2020” but added a note of caution and insisted: “we need to make absolutely sure that farmers, who are notorious for suffering in silence in the solitude of their tractors, get a seat at the table to come forward with their ideas about what the market needs to look like post Brexit.”
