Unemployment has continued to fall in Somerset and across the UK and is now the lowest for 10 years. Commenting on today’s publication of national statistics James Heappey MP said:
“I welcome the fact that unemployment is down again in Somerset. With the total number of unemployment claimants in the Wells constituency at just 1.2 per cent that is half of the national average. This is firm proof that the Somerset economy remains strong.”
Total claimants in Wells have plummeted 51 per cent between December 2010 and 2015 and eight per cent 2014-15. Youth unemployment has also continued to decrease with only 135 claimants aged 18-24 in December 2015, 10 lower than the previous year.
