James Heappey MP joined local small businesses in urging shoppers to support Small Business Saturday on 3rd December. The annual event supported by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, the Federation for Small Businesses and the Post Office is an opportunity for small businesses to promote what they do and win some of the pre-Christmas retail business.
James visited small businesses in Burnham & Highbridge, Wells, Glastonbury and Cheddar with representatives from each town’s Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Heappey said: “So much of our Christmas shopping is now done online with big multinational companies so it’s easy to forget just how many different businesses there are on our high streets. Small Business Saturday is a great excuse to swap the internet for the High Street and to go and have a browse in some of the amazing shops we have in Wells and Shepton Mallet. There will be thousands of perfect Christmas gifts waiting to catch in the most discerning eye so do take this opportunity to support our high streets and our local small businesses.”
He added: “There are just so many different businesses all selling things that you’d struggle to find just about anywhere else. It is exactly what Small Business Saturday is all about – truly independent and small retailers offering thousands of perfect Christmas gifts. Do take this opportunity to support our high streets and our local small businesses.”
