Lenny’s Coffee Shop, in Shipham, which may be the smallest in the country, was set to close last month, but a new team of volunteers has taken the reins, with Janet Leek in charge.
She said: “I’m very excited. I’m looking forward to buzzing again.
“It’s the perfect place for a trip to the beautiful countryside. It couldn’t be a nicer rural retreat, and people should visit for the miles of walking and our homemade cakes.”
Lenny’s will open four days a week, but more volunteers are required to extend the opening hours.
All profits raised by the café, which was started by members of St Leonard’s Church after the building became vacant 20 years ago, are donated to charity.
Lenny’s welcomed MP James Heappey as a guest for the grand reopening. He said: “It is brilliant volunteers have got it open again. It is small but perfectly formed.
“It is the perfect place for people to go after a walk on the Mendips and I am so pleased for all the people who have given time to make it happen.”
Shipham Parish Council, too, paid homage to the café. A spokesman said: “We are absolutely delighted Lenny’s is reopening.
“It is a wonderful asset and the parish council wishes the volunteers all the best.”
