Wells MP James Heappey has welcomed the announcement of planned updates to the A303 between Sparkford and Ilchester, following a consultation period.
The Government's major improvements to the road will link the M3 in the South East and the M5 in the South West.
Highways England announced yesterday solid plans for a £169million upgrade between Sparkford and Ilchester, which will cut congestion and reduce journey times.
Mr Heappey welcomed the news and said: "It is great to see plans now well developed and funding allocated for this vital improvement to the South West road network.
"The impact on Somerset's economy will be enormous. Ex-party leaders might have visited Somerset recently to deflect attention from how little happened in the represented county.
"But the reality is that only under this current Government are plans for the A303 now motoring ahead."
