Shepton Mallet MP James Heappey has vowed to monitor recruitment at Shepton Mallet Community Hospital, so its inpatient ward is re-opened by the end of March.
Following a Board meeting this week, the Somerset Partnership Foundation Trust (SOMPAR) confirmed the temporary closure will continue with nursing staff shortages having still not been resolved.
The trust said its position has not changed since the temporary closure began back in October.
Mr Heappey said: “Whilst it is disappointing that the Board did not decide to re-open Shepton Community Hospital’s ward sooner than expected, it was always the end of March that had been identified as their target.
“I will continue to work with local health authorities and will be monitoring progress on recruiting carefully so that the ward will re-open, as promised, as soon as possible.”
