Students at Strode College, in Street, enjoyed a trip to Westminster last week and were given the chance to grill their local MP as part of their visit.
As well as being given a tour of the Palace of Westminster, the students also took part in a workshop and were visited by Street’s MP James Heappey.
Mr Heappey was asked a host of insightful questions about his role as an MP and national and local issues such as Brexit, education and careers advice in Somerset.
He said: “It was great to have the students of Strode College in Parliament. I hope they enjoyed it and learnt a lot about the work of the House of Commons and MPs.
“As ever, they asked a number of interesting questions about all sorts of local, national and international issues.
“In the week that we celebrated the centenary of votes for women, I hope that they saw how anyone can participate in our democracy and become an MP.
“Hopefully one or two of them might even want to be an MP in the future.”
