It has now been two weeks since the end of the national lockdown and the reintroduction of the tier system in this country.
While there may be changes to some tiers – of which at the time of this deadline we do not yet know – this is an important week ahead of Christmas.
Here in Somerset, it is a mixed picture. The vaccination programme is well underway in the county, with them now taking place in Berrow and Glastonbury in the Wells constituency.
Having been in touch with local stakeholders, they have all made clear they are making their way through their database and will get in touch with you when it is your turn to have the vaccine.
I know it will be tough waiting for the call or letter, but the clinicians are doing their very best to ensure the vulnerable are vaccinated as quickly as possible.
With tens of thousands of people already vaccinated here in the UK, the Christmas period has come round quickly and the flip side of this is that with places opening up infections are on the rise.
Much has been said about the Christmas bubbles, but it is also down to all of us to ensure we mitigate our own risks. Of course, we all want to enjoy the festivities – and so we should – but it is also important we think about our social contacts in the build-up and treat our most vulnerable with as much caution as possible. The decision was made with the devolved nations to try and find the right balance to enjoy the festive season after a difficult year while keeping people safe.
It is a tough ask, I know, but we are getting closer to beating this awful virus.
