By the time you read this, it will of course be Remembrance Day. It is a day which is hugely important to our country and means a lot to me personally as a former soldier.
It is so important that we all take a moment today to remember the sacrifice our service men and women made in the Second World War.
I remember paying my respects last year and having to do that in a very different way due to the restrictions in place because of the pandemic. This year, I will be attending services and parades both in my role as Minister for the Armed Forces and Member of Parliament for Wells – and will be selling poppies in Wells on Friday – something I very much enjoy doing.
It is something which means a lot to me, and I am delighted our service men and women will get the recognition they so richly deserve this year. It also provides a chance for us to thank those currently serving in the Military who have worked so incredibly hard during the past 18 months to keep us safe, and who risk their lives to serve their country day in and day out.
I feel immensely proud of my time in the Army, and it is a huge privilege to be in Government supporting our Armed Forces. I am very much looking forward to attending services across this weekend.
We will remember them.
