In the week following the Queen’s speech, it has been a busy time, both with regards to my ministerial role and in the constituency.
I have travelled across Europe over the past few weeks to secure as much weaponry as possible to support our Ukrainian friends. We have all been so motivated to restore Ukraine’s freedom and - as they have done throughout this war - they are fighting back admirably.
This is something which is affecting us all. I have been to several schools over the past few weeks, and every single visit has included questions from young people on the situation in Ukraine, our work to support them and – crucially – what they can do to help.
The fact that children are so engaged in this shows how important it is, and I know that schools across the patch are getting ready to welcome Ukrainian refugees very soon.
These Ukrainian children (and their parents) will need all our support as they adjust to life here in Somerset, but I couldn't be prouder of the work of the county to ensure we can help those fleeing from the evil acts of Putin.
I will continue to work in Government and around the world on ensuring Putin fails, but it is heart-warming to see that here in this great county so many people are supporting those who have come here to find safety.
